Today is Veterans Day.
I offer this simple prayer for us all to pray as we honor and give thanks for all who serve.
“Almighty God, we commend you for your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
(from The Book of Common Prayer, page 823)
"Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous!
Do not tremble or be dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
(Joshua 1:9, NASB)
Reflection:
How do you remember and pray for our veterans? What are ways we can encourage their families in their absence?

I was thinking yesterday about the scope of a soldier's sacrifice. Not only do they leave their families to go into dangerous place - but through their experiences carry hard burdens and hidden scars the rest of us do not. It is indeed a big thing they do for each one of us.
