The Election is Over, Now What?

By: Jenifer Metzger

The 2024 United States Presidential election is over and we now know who our new President is for the next four years. But now what?

Like you, I know people who support both sides of the fences, even professing Christians supporting both sides. (I do have my own beliefs here, but I will not be sharing those.) People in support of Kamala Harris who say, "How can you dare be a Christian if you support him!" And people in support of Donald Trump who say, "How can you dare be a Christian if you support her!" It's all over the board.

But now that the numbers are in and we know who our leader is, what can we do?  Whether you voted red, blue, or somewhere in the middle, we all have a job to do.

The election is over, now what? #USA #election #donaldtrump #UnitedStatesofAmerica #president

Pray. We have a duty to pray for our leaders. It doesn't matter if the new President of the United States was your choice or not, it is your duty, your privilege, your Biblical command to pray for this leader. Pray that God would guide our President, give our President wisdom, protect our President, etc. Whether you like this new President or not, pray.

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for
everyone, for kings and all those who are in
authority, so that we may lead a tranquil
and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 CSB

Repent. The Bible tells us in 2 Chronicles that God will heal our land if we call on Him. However, we often fail to read and obey the entire verse. We are told to humble ourselves, seek Him, and turn from our evil ways. We can't continue in evil and sinful ways and expect God to heal our land.

And My people, who bear My name,
humble themselves, pray and seek
My face, and turn from their evil ways,
then I will hear from heaven, forgive
their sin, and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 CSB

Stand bold. It is time for Christians to stand boldly for Christ. To live boldly. We can't keep sitting back quietly and letting the world trample us. We know what sin is. We know what evil is. And we know that this world is full of sin, evil, and hate. We must stand against it. This doesn't mean we are rude. It doesn't mean we hurt others. It doesn't mean we shun the sinners. It means we stand against injustice, we love, we share the Gospel, we live in a way that shows the goodness of God, we teach and disciple, and we live faithful to God.

The wicked flee when no one is pursuing them,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
Proverbs 28: CSB

Love. Regardless of who your loved one, neighbor, co-worker, or stranger voted for, love. Love with the love of God. It isn't time for hate. It isn't time to gloat because your candidate won. It isn't time to mourn because your candidate lost. It is time to love.

Do everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14 CSB

Again, it doesn't matter what side you fall on or who you voted for. Your job now is to pray, repent, stand bold, and love.

1. What can you do today to show love to someone who may have voted opposite of you?
