Talking it Out | Talking Upward, Inward, and Outward

As Christians, we are called to be people of faith, and communication is a key part of that faith. Scripture is filled with examples of people talking to God, talking to themselves (with encouragement!), and talking to others to share their faith. Today, we'll explore these three important conversations and how they can strengthen our walk with Christ.

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:15— NLT

Conversation #1: Talking to God (Prayer)

Prayer is the cornerstone of our relationship with God. It's not a one-way street; it's a conversation where we express our joys, sorrows, doubts, and hopes. The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Conversation #2: Talking to Yourself (Self-Encouragement)

Our inner voice can be a powerful tool. Sometimes, discouragement creeps in, and our inner critic starts yapping. But the Bible reminds us in Ephesians 4:29 to "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up, according to their needs, so that it may benefit those who listen." This verse applies to ourselves, too!

Instead of negativity, fill your inner conversations with scripture and positive affirmations. Remind yourself of God's love and faithfulness.

Conversation #3: Talking to Others (Sharing Your Faith)

Finally, we are called to share our faith with others. Talking to friends, family, and even strangers about our beliefs can be daunting. Still, it's a vital part of living as a Christian. Remember, you don't have to be a Bible scholar to share your faith. Simply talk about how God has impacted your life and the hope you find in Him.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14—NKJV

Let's Reflect

These three conversations are all intertwined. By strengthening our communication with God through prayer, we gain the clarity and strength to speak kind and encouraging words to ourselves. This inner peace allows us to confidently share our faith with others.

Remember, God is always there to listen. Don't be afraid to open your heart to Him, speak kindly to yourself, and share your faith with the world.
