Characteristics of a Godly Woman: Part 3

"Love is patient, love is kind."

~1 Corinthians 13:4

We are in the middle of a month-long study on the characteristics of a godly woman. Today, we continue that study by looking at 4 more characteristics. Godly women are:

       •Loving

Here we transition into the fruits of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23. These characteristics are important to include because they certainly do apply to Christian women, just as they do to God Himself and to men, as well. This kind of love is "agape" love and refers to good will, affection, and a brotherly type of love. See also: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

•Joyful

The joy of the Lord is our strength (see Nehemiah 8:10), and it is this God-given joy, this strength that comes from trusting in the Lord, that enables the Proverbs 31 woman to look to the future with hope (verse 25).

•Peaceful

Have you ever been around a woman who just exudes peace no matter what is going on in her life at that moment? That is truly a sight to behold, let me tell you! And while it may seem like an impossibility for us to ever reach that point, it is something available to all of us. By walking with the Spirit, trusting in God, meditating on His Word, and growing ever closer to Him in relationship, we are able to have a quiet inner calm develop within us. This God-given peace (John 14:27 and Philippians 4:6-7) is (as Isaiah 30:15 puts it), illustrative of the truth that "in returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength." It is also a part of the armor we have been given to wear on a daily basis in our spiritual warfare against the enemy (see Ephesians 6:15).

Reflection Questions:

1) Which of these characteristics is least likely to feel like it comes naturally to you?

2) Can you strive in your own power and succeed in producing this character qualities in yourself? Or do you need the Spirit of God to work in and through you?

3) In what area have you already seen growth in your life? How can you praise God for His work in you and inspire others with what He has done?
