The other day I was talking with my coworker about luck. He is a firm believer in luck while I don’t believe in luck. This lead to a very long and interesting discussion that has stayed in my mind for awhile. The thought of every good thing in your life happening by a random chance was a very sad thing me. It's sad to think that all the good things just happen by chance, that there are some people who don't get many good things in life because they just happen to be unlucky.
This conversation caused me to find some miracles where some people would consider luck or chance. Things as small as when I was having a bad day at work only for someone to bring me Starbucks that day or not setting an alarm but still waking up on time. These small things might seem like lucky chances to many, but they can show us how much God loves and cares for us. I've always loved the saying "Love isn't always shown in big gestures but in small everyday actions." I think this is how God shows us His love often, by small everyday blessings.
These small blessings often get forgotten or worse, overlooked. For example, I've recently scheduled my 5th surgery, a lot of people have asked me how I feel about this. Many of these people are expecting an angry or sad response but I've notice shock when I talk about how God has been so good through this process, about how God allowed me to be able to schedule it after my vacation when there was talk about that not being possible, about how God worked it out with my job so I won't go unpaid for months on end, about how God took care of all the small details that scared me. It would have been easy to overlook all of these things if I was focused on my situation, instead this whole time I knew that I had to stay focused on the good things God was doing. By doing that I was able to get a positive, happy outlook on a hard situation.
This isn't always easy to do. When you're having a bad day, it's much easier to focus on the bad things that are happening rather then how you hit every green light on the way to work or how you had just enough coffee left for a cup this morning. But if you focus on those negative moments you lose track of all the good things God is doing in your life, because trust me, there are million of amazing blessing He's giving everyday.
I challenge you to start trying to redirect your focus to God's blessings. It's Saturday, tomorrow is a new week and a new start. So I challenge you to every day write down five good things that happened to you and thank God for each one. Trust me, your days will start becoming way more happier when you focus on His blessings!
