One night recently I went to bed with the weight of unknowns on my heart. They snuffed out the sleep I was longing to get.
We can so easily overlook, or forget, that there is a bigger picture than what is visible in our lives presently. There is Someone holding it all together and that someone is not any of us.
The reminder, or knowledge of this, comes as we are in church weekly and also take in God’s Word each day.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you at the proper time,
casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
(1 Peter 5:6-7, NASB)
We need to give all of it – the anxiety, the concern, the worries – to Him. Once and for all. He is more than able to take care of it, even better than we are able, I would dare say.
One of my favorite verses is:
“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
(Psalm 138:8, NKJV)
God is concerned about the very things which concern us. He does not dismiss our anxieties, worries, or concerns as trivial or unimportant. If they matter to us, they matter to Him.
Other versions of Psalm 138:8 use the words “complete” or “accomplish” in place of the word perfect.
“For I am confident of this very thing,
that He who began a good work in you
will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 1:6, NASB)
There is the word again – God will perfect or complete the work He begins in our lives. He does not leave any of us unfinished.
When those cares come pressing in, we need to preach the truth to ourselves, about ourselves but also about those for whom we are concerned.
“I know His history
And the kind of God He is He might make it a mystery But He’s proving I can trust in Him And yeah, I believe it.”(from Unfinished by Mandisa)
Recall what God has done in the past.
Remember He will perfect that which concerns you.
Cast your care upon Him.
What is worrying you today? What is keeping you from casting your care on Him? How can we be praying for you today?
Joanne, I just found your blog this morning and just browsing on your page for a few minutes, I can feel the peace. Thinking of this post...just going to God during those times when my mind is so full of concerns and worries, gives me peace. I may not know the outcome, but I trust in God's track record in my life. He's always been for me and worked things out for my good. That is the greatest comfort of all. I know I can count on him.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to "meet" you and I will be enjoying catching up on the rest of your posts over the week. I hope you'll come visit my blog as well.
