The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity. We have God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God gave us the Holy Spirit to be our Helper, our Counselor, and our Comforter, and as Christians we should desire to and strive to live a Holy Spirit led life. But how can we do that? How can we let the Holy Spirit lead us?
Confess our sins. We are sinful people. God knows we are not perfect, He didn't create us to be perfect. He knows we sin every day. But He also made a way through Jesus for us to be forgiven of our sins. To live a Spirit led life, we need to continually confess our sins. We need to regularly ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind any unconfessed sin we may have, then we need to call it out by name and ask for forgiveness.
Get into the Word. We need to be in the Word. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Word. He leads us through what we read. And He reveals Truth to us as we read. We must be in the Bible! The more we read and study the Word, the more the Holy Spirit will guide us and teach us.
Keep our hearts tuned to the Spirit. The Holy Spirit will continually speak to us, telling us right from wrong, convicting our hearts, revealing what path to take, leading us where God would have us go, and teaching us. But we have to keep tuned in, we have to listen and be willing to obey. We can't live a Spirit led life if we aren't listening to the Spirit.
God gave the Holy Spirit to us. He is here to be our Helper, Counselor, and Comforter; He's here to lead us. We need to strive to live a Spirit led life.
Discussion:
1. Do you recognize the Holy Spirit leading you in your day to day life?
2. How can you intentionally be more aware of the Holy Spirit leading you?
