In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with
one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among
you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV
Recently the thought community has been on my mind a lot. Community is something that is necessary in your life but something I struggle with. I'm a very quiet and private person so having that kind of relationship with people isn't easy. When I talk about community I'm not talking about just some people that live in the same town as you. I'm talking about a group of fellow believers who know you and walk through life with you. They are there with you through your struggles and who will give you accountability.
That kind of relationship in necessary in life. We are not made to live our lives by ourselves. God wants us to go, meet people, grow the relationship, help them in their faith, just basically live life together! In Galatians 6:2 it even tells us to "Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." It's so important to just be there for each other! We know how important this is because the Bible talks about it often.
A friend loves at all times and a
brother is born for a time of adversity.
Proverbs 17:17 NIV
This was my favorite example of the Bible talking about the relationships we are supposed to create. Just the thought that we are created to love each other at all time, that in times of adversities we are to grow closer. This is what we're called to do!
I understand that you might not have a community yet. But that is okay because now you get to go and create one! You can go and get involved in your church, join a Bible study, find a small group, invite someone to lunch after church. There are so many different ways to go about this that you won't have any excuses not to do it. It doesn't have to be a group of 15+ people. Start with just making that one friend at church. I challenge you today to start thinking about your community. Do you have one currently? Or are you in the place that a lot of others are in where you are in desperate need of friends with your fellow believers? Now is the perfect chance to go grow your community!
Discussion Questions:
1.) Do you find it easy to connect with other believers?
2.) What does your community currently look like?
I think the older you get, the harder it is to make friends and the smaller your social circle becomes. At least for me, that's been the case. I've tried Bible Studies, but it seems the friendships never seem to click or they don't want a friendship beyond the study time.
