"And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through his Spirit who lives in you."
~Romans 8:11
One Good Friday several years ago, I recorded a podcast with a friend. During our conversation we started talking about the importance of walking by the Spirit - the reality that, unless you operate according to the Spirit’s leading, you will never be characterized by the fruits of the Spirit in your daily life.
At one point in our conversation we brought up this very verse which, in one translation, says "the same *power* that raised Christ from the dead lives in us."
And that means the reality of Easter is something that can (and dare we say should!) live on into the day after Easter and the day after and the day after.
When people are rubbing you the wrong way (whether little people in the form of your children or bigger people who are heckling you online or someone in between), you don’t have to give into your temper. You don’t have to yell, holler, fight back, judge unfairly, or debate.
We aren’t helpless, so we need to stop acting as if we are.
The same powerful Holy Spirit Who was actually responsible for *bringing Christ back to life* resides in us!
Just ponder that for a minute!
That means that when every last ounce of your old flesh wants to do the easy thing and lash out, you don’t have to give in. You can turn to the powerful Holy Spirit Who has taken up residence within you and, by that power and strength that is not your own, resist the old flesh and walk forward in love, joy, peace, and patience.
That, friend, is how we make Easter a daily reality in our lives!
Reflection Questions:
1) Have you ever stopped and thought about how the power of the Holy Spirit Who raised Christ from the dead is the very same power that is now in you if you follow Christ?
2) How could meditating on this truth change your life?
3) How can you walk in the power of the Spirit today?
