And the world is
passing
away along with it’s
desires, but
whoever does the will
of God abides forever.
1 John 2:17
Lately I’ve been thinking about how little time we have on earth, not entirely sure why I am having this thoughts, but my mind always wanders there. I've tried to get rid of these thoughts, but I realize avoiding them wasn't going to stop me from worrying about the future. I’m already 22, which might not sound old to everyone, but to me it is shocking how quickly this age came. I still can’t quite believe how fast time seems to move.
Before you start to worry, this whole thing isn’t going to be a depressing 400+ word post about your impending death. When I first started to think about this, I was a bit sad. The future is a uncertain and sometimes down right terrifying thing. But I decided if I was going to think about how short life is, then I would stop thinking about it negatively and think about the positives.
You might ask what positives can there be to getting old, to the world passing, to the future. But my goodness, there are so many! I even started a small list in my head; gaining wisdom, gaining experience, getting to know more people, and being closer to my Savior every day.
The list went on and on, but my favorite thing on the list is what I read in John 14:18, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” This is my favorite thing to think about when I think about the future. God’s going to come for me! How wonderful a thought that is! Because we have a relationship with God we don’t have to worry about the future because with Him we will be able to abide forever!
For I consider that
the sufferings of this
present time are not worth
comparing with
the glory that is to be
revealed to us.
Romans 8:18
Thinking of the future can be terrifying to us, but we get the wonderful gift of knowing that there is glory later on for us. No matter what we go through in this world we can take a comfort in knowing that God has a wonderful plan for us, a plan where we get to see people we lost, get to worship with Him face to face, get to be pain free, get to live with Him in Heaven.
