"Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before."
~1 Thessalonians 4:11
Have you ever looked at those you see online or at a conference or in leadership at your church or at a book signing and thought, “I want that”?
Have you thought that in order to be “in ministry” or "making a difference" that you have to be serving the homeless at your local shelter full time or serving on the foreign mission field or serving in an official capacity at your church?
All of those things are great. They are needed and important in the body of Christ.
But so are all the Christ-followers who aren’t doing those things.
We need Christians who see the ministry that is to be found in raising little ones with intentionality and grace.
We need Christians who see the ministry that is to be found in being a shining light for Jesus in the work place.
We need Christians who see the ministry that is to be found in extending hospitality to others, welcoming them into your home and heart and around your table.
We need Christians who see the ministry that is to be found in simply offering a patient word and kind smile to the bank teller or cashier or waitress you had to wait for.
We need Christians who see the ministry that is to be found in every moment of every day simply by nature of the fact that we are Christ’s ambassadors sent on a mission to love others, serve others, and proclaim life-changing truth (see Matthew 28:18-20).
We need Christians that realize that your ministry? It’s right there where Christ has already planted your feet - wherever that may be.
The question is: what are you going to do today with the ministry opportunities you have been given?
Reflection Questions:
1) What ministry opportunities have you already been given that are a part of you "minding your own business"?
2) How can you be faithful to live those out?
3) What changes might need to be made in your daily routine or expectations in order for you to be faithful where God has planted your feet?
I always try to be nice to everyone I see. I’ve always been one that will listen to anyone’s problems, whether I know them or not. I will offer to pray with/for them.
