If it were not for fear, what would you do?
Would you change your career? Write a book? Learn a new hobby? Learn to play an instrument? Speak up at Bible study when a question is asked? Share Jesus with a neighbor?
Fear has held me back more times than I could possibly count. Fear has probably held you back at some point too. So often we don't do the things we want to do because of fear. What if someone laughs at us? What if we mess up? What if we say the wrong thing? What if we fail?
What if we stop focusing on the what ifs?
What if we took a leap of faith?
The enemy uses fear against us. He knows we have this fear so he continually whispers the what ifs to us. He wants us to shrink back, he wants us to live in a state of fear. But God says, "Do not fear."
God has the power to take away our fear. We can rest knowing that He is beside us and will strengthen us, He will hold us up with His victorious hand. All throughout the Bible we see God telling us to not be afraid. When we obey this command, we can rest in knowing He has us in the palm of His hand.
What is God calling you to do? Whatever it is, don't be afraid, Do it! God rewards those who follow take a leap of faith and follow His plans, even when they are afraid.
Discussion:
1. What would you do if fear would not creep in?
2. What is God calling you to do that fear has held you back from?
