This past week, I flipped the calendar to September and sighed in disbelief that this year has gone by so quickly. Even though technically, Autumn doesn't begin until later this month, when September arrives after a long, hot, sticky summer, I consider it to be close enough to celebrate the new season.
This made me think about my own life and how it feels to enter into a new season. Perhaps you are there, too?
New seasons can stir up lots of complicated emotions for each of us. Sadness that the season we knew and loved has passed. Apprehension as we walk into a different season, full of the unknowns. Confusion because we're not quite sure we understand our role in this new life season.
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"
Ecclesiastes 3:1
God gave us example of the seasons of life when he set the world in motion.
The quiet and stillness of Winter.
The rebirth and resurrection of Spring.
The life and vitality of Summer.
The harvest and preparation of Fall.
God also gave us this comfort in the midst of our changing seasons -- even when all the details of our lives are in disarray and we walk into a season of unknown, God is still there and He is unchanging.
God is our rock, our anchor, our hope, and our secure foundation when everything around us feels uncertain.
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever"
Hebrews 13:8
I have been reminding my own heart to thank God for His goodness to me during each and every season of my life. As I look back now, I can see God's blessings to me during each season, and how He used each and every one of the seasons of my life to teach me lessons that I could only learn during that particular time of life. As I enter a new season of life, I pray that God will give me a heart of gratitude and faith to recognize how He is at work all around me, using each detail of this life season to mold my heart to be more like Him.
What new season are you facing today? I challenge you to join me in thanking God for his provision and care during the last season of life. What did He teach you during the last season?
Likewise, will you trust God with this next season of your life? What might He teach us during this new season?
