A Mother Of Faith

"Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile." Exodus 2:1-2— NIV

The mother of Moses lived in a woeful and harrowing time. By order of Pharaoh, all sons born to Israelite women were to be drowned by the midwives.

But when Moses was born, his mother hid him for three months. She had to have heard the stories from other mothers, seen their empty arms, and lamented with them as they quietly whispered the names of the children they would never see grow up.

When she could no longer hide Moses, she trusted God, placed him in a basket, and sent him down the river. Then she turned around and returned home; she had his sister watching from a distance.

Can you imagine how she felt when a few hours later? Her daughter ran home to tell her that Moses had been rescued from the basket! She must have felt relief that her baby boy would make it after all.

As a mom, there may be times when we have to put our child in God's arms and trust what He is doing. Perhaps your son or daughter faces a chronic illness, bullying, an addiction, or is heading out into the world on their own for the first time. Remembering the faith, it must have taken  Mosses' Mother to leave her little boy in the arms of God. 

Although God is all-powerful and can do miracles. His word gives us the wisdom to make daily decisions and govern our lives. He typically leads us by wise counsel in his word and sometimes places others in our lives to give us wise words as well. 

It's not easy to walk through these situations; we know life can get messy and feel like a rollercoaster ride. But rest assured in the encouragement that God has a wonderful plan for your child's life even if we can't see it at the moment. He can fulfill that plan no matter how dim things might look right now.
