Last week, I noticed a wonderful surprise in the upper corner of my back porch. A bird had built a nest on top of one of our porch lights. I am certainly not a bird expert, but I assume this was the mama bird. No offense intended to father birds if I am wrong. I watched as this bird would come back and forth to the nest, working tirelessly all day and tending to the safety of the nest.
In the past, I have been so busy that I never took the time to notice these little things around me, and I could have missed this nest. I have started praying that God would open my eyes and heart to help me notice His hand at work all around me, and this nest was one of the answers to those prayers.
Yesterday, my sons and I heard the sweet little peeps of baby birds! We watched from the window as the mama bird would fly back and forth, depositing food for her little ones. From our dining room window, we can see the little baby birds' beaks reach up for food. Their little heads are so sweet and fluffy, and they are absolutely tiny. They totally depend on this mama bird to feed them and keep them alive.
Who taught the mama bird how to do that?
I would imagine there is no What to Expect When You're Expecting edition for birds.
God designed these tiny birds to know how to care for their young. He amazingly created them to know how to build these beautiful, compact, safe nests. He gave them the knowledge of how to gather food for their young and keep them alive. God watches over these tiny baby birds and cares for them.
what you will eat or what you will drink,
nor about your body, what you will put on.
Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not of more value than they?
Matthew 6:25-26
If you are feeling low today, I want to encourage you to think of how much God loves you. His hand is at work in all of creation. Consider how much he loves you and how much more valuable you are that the birds!
How are you noticing God's hand around you today? I pray He will encourage your heart and remind you of His power in all the details of our lives.
