“‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall...
“‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord.”’
Ezekiel 13:10-11, 13-14 NIV
God holds us accountable for lying and whitewashing
the truth. He took vengeance on the false
prophets in Ezekiel 13, and I believe God still has these strong feelings
against whitewashing the truth.
You and I may think we're not like the prophets. Maybe we aren't called to do the exact same work as they did, but we are called to be representatives of Christ in our current culture (2 Cor. 5:20).
If we whitewash the truth out of fear, indifference or people-pleasing, we are misrepresenting Jesus.
We are called to be salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16), and we must expect the culture not to always appreciate our calling. In fact, Jesus says we should expect the world to react strongly against us.
But if we whitewash the truth to protect ourselves, we weaken his powerful, life-changing message.
Friend, I challenge you to be brave. Be real. Learn to speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15). This is one of the hardest lessons to learn, but also one of the most important ones, and God can help you do this.
Don't paint on the whitewash. Depend on the Holy Spirit
to make you strong and courageous (Josh. 1:9). God will give you the words and power you
need!
Finding Peace in God's Word
Thanks for this encouragement to speak the truth in love! I needed it.
ReplyDeleteThanks friend!
DeleteWow. This packs a powerful punch!
ReplyDeleteMay we walk in the grace to always speak the truth in love.
Blessings to you, Debby!
DeleteThis is so important, especially in these days. If we try to adapt truth so it's more acceptable to culture, we not only dishonor God, but we hurt others instead of helping.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
DeleteSarah, what a wonderful and encouraging post to remind us to stay true to the truth. Thank you.
