In honor of Shari Miller...
A Season of Thanksgiving, Every Single Day by Shari A. Miller originally posted November 19, 2014.
I love Fall, it's my favorite season. Along with it we have Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, which is just
around the corner.
We host Thanksgiving dinner every year at our house. Every day the picture is the same. I'm awakened
with the morning sunlight streaming through the window, and I hear my husband in the kitchen
preparing for the day ahead. (I am very blessed to have a husband who is an excellent cook. I am
the baker in the family, so I come up with all the yummy treats.)
The house becomes alive with activity as we hurry to prepare for our guests. In the background you can
hear the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, a must for my son to watch, ever since he's been a little boy.
Delectable scents fill the air, and the table is set with a meal that is fit for a king. The door bell rings and
hugs and laughter soon fill the room. Family gathers round the table and we stop to give thanks to our
one and only risen King.
A picture perfect day, for giving thanks, like the one above doesn't have to happen just once a year.
A heart filled with thanksgiving should happen every moment of every day.
"always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Ephesians 5:20 (NIV)
Life can be hard, very hard.
Each day brings with it, it's own set of joys and hardships.
When the hardships happen, the only way to get through them is by reaching our to the Lord and
finding his strength and joy.
This doesn't happen by just once in a while reaching out to him when we are desperate for help. This
happens by going to the throne each and every moment of every single day.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 it states,
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ
Jesus."
Did you notice the phrase in there, "give thanks in all circumstances"?
When we do everything that was mentioned in the verse above, along with an attitude of continual
thanks, things will change.
When I was driving to pick up my son the other day, I was talking to God telling him everything I was
thankful for. I thought, "Wow! Even though there are hardships I am still so very blessed!"
Giving thanks honors God. It takes our focus off the negative and puts it onto the positive. It makes up
step into the here and now and live fully the life God intended us to live.
Are you ready to take the step with me friends? Are you ready to live in a season of thanksgiving every
single day?
