May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.
Psalm 20:4-5 NLT
Have you experienced the power of prayer journaling? I recently rediscovered the joy of journaling my prayers, and I hope this encourages you.
Last year I bought an 18-month prayer journal, and I started using it in the fall. I recorded daily prayers for several months. Then I got sick with the big virus (you know the one I'm talking about) and was too fatigued to keep up with it.
My prayer journal sat in the bottom of a tote bag for several months. I didn't stop praying, but I did stop recording my prayers. However, last week, I found the prayer journal when I cleaned out my tote bag.
As I flipped through the journal, I was amazed at the power of prayer. I saw clear Yes and No answers to many prayers. When I uttered those prayers, the Yes and No answers were nowhere near being clear. Yet in hindsight, I can clearly see how God was working through my prayers. He was shaping where I am today, based on what I was praying then!
I've restarted entries in my prayer journal this month. I want to watch how God will work through my prayers now. Each morning, I'm pausing before my busy day begins to jot down prayers for me, my family and others. Though the answers aren't clear today, I trust God will answer them in his perfect timing.
You can track the power of prayer through your own prayer journal. It can be a simple notebook, or one specifically dedicated to prayer. Keep reading to learn which one I use. But the most important thing is to pick one that will be best for holding you accountable for prayer journaling.
Our focus verse for today can be applied to the power of prayer journaling. By recording our heart's desires in our prayer journal, we entrust them to God. We can write down our plans and surrender them to God. We can also rejoice when God gives us victory in our prayer lives, and trust him to answer our prayers in his perfect timing. This is all easier to do when we record our prayers in a prayer journal. I hope you'll start (or restart) this simple spiritual practice today.
