Connection to the Father

By: Jenifer Metzger

To be a Christian without
prayer is no more possible than
to be alive without breathing.

~Martin Luther

Prayer is our connection to our Father. Martin Luther even went as far to say it is impossible to be a Christian without prayer.

Remember the time when all we had were home phones? When a powerline was down, we had no connection. We were unable to make a call until connection was restored. There was no calling a friend or family member or ordering a pizza without use of the phone. When we are not praying to God, our connection is severed just like a powerline down. We must pray to restore that connection with God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds
of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert
and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:18

There are some days that prayer comes easy. We have needs we want to bring to God or we are in a good place and want to give thanks, so praying is easy. There are other times that prayer is hard. We can't find the words to say or we let life keep us so busy that go all day without uttering a word of prayer. Sometimes our prayer life can seem like a rollercoaster ride with the ups and downs. The key is go recognizing the down times and making sure we restore our connection.

One of my Powersheets goals for the month of June is to reach my step goal every day. Being a house wife and stay at home mom means I am at home most of the time. I also have a lot of ministry work that requires me to be sitting at the computer. So hitting my step goal can be challenging. To make sure I get my steps in, I go on a walk each morning. I love walking and I love nature but I often let the busyness of life keep me from taking walks.

My morning walk time has become my favorite time of the day because it has become a powerful prayer time. For that 30 or so minutes I am walking throughout my neighborhood talking with God, sometimes smiling big, sometimes crying hard (I am sure the neighbors think I am crazy!). There have been some days I've been so focused on a conversation with God that I walked far longer than I intended. Not only have my walks allowed me to hit my step goal, but they have also helped my relationship with God to grow, a goal that is far more important!

Whether you take prayer walks, sit at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, turn off the radio in the car, kneel down at your bedside, sit on the front porch, or use your cleaning time, restore your connection to the Father by praying. He longs to hear from you. He longs to talk to you. He longs to be connected to you.

My two favorite books on prayer are Fervent by Priscilla Shirer and Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian.

It's time for Share A Link Wednesday! Each Wednesday we invite you to leave a link to your latest blog post in the comments. We still desire to connect women of God with one another and encourage each other in Christ. So grab a cup of coffee or glass of sweet tea, sit back and visit a few blogs. Be encouraged and share your own stories.
