If You Need a Blessing Today

By: Sarah Geringer

May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.

Psalm 20:4 NLT

Do you need a blessing today?

This entire Psalm 20 is a blessing. It's short, and I encourage you to read it in its entirety today.

Psalm 20 is meant to be read in times of trouble. I don't know anyone who isn't facing some sort of trouble today.

It reminds you that God is keeping you safe. He's sending you help and strengthening you. He's remembering your offerings and looking favorably on you.

Then we come to this beautiful verse:

May he grant your heart's desires
and make all your plans succeed.

What is your heart's desire today?

You may say--I want a relationship. What you desire is intimacy.
You may say--I want better health. What you desire is wholeness.
You may say--I want less stress. What you desire is lasting peace.

What is the desire underneath your expressed want or need?

God will meet that desire for you, dear one.

For years I struggled with unfulfilled heart's desires. Once I realized God was able to perfectly meet the underlying desire, I found the peace I was seeking.

When our desires align with God's will, our plans align with his plans. That's how God will make all our plans succeed.

Here's a verse from another psalm to look at this from a different angle:

Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Psalm 37:4

Today, take time to delight in God. In all his beautiful ways, and in all the ways he's been kind to you. Ask him to reveal to you the deepest desires of your heart and give them over to him for safekeeping. You can trust him with your heart, friend.

  1. I shared this with a friend who seems despondent and hopeless. I'll keep praying for her and checking on her and update you. Thank you for this piece.
