How to Grow in Wisdom

By: Sarah Geringer

Wisdom resides in the heart of the discerning;
she is known even among fools.
Proverbs 14:33 HCSB
Have you grown in wisdom in the past year?
Proverbs 14:29a tells us that a patient person shows great understanding. Understanding, discernment, and wisdom are all linked together. A woman of grounded faith displays all these virtues.
Sure, wisdom comes with age. I'm much wiser in my 40's than I was in my 20's, for example. I'm sure you're wiser too than you were last year, certainly compared to 10 or 20 years ago as well.

True wisdom doesn't naturally come with age. It comes from God. True wisdom stands out from worldly wisdom, because it cuts through life's clutter and focuses on God's truth, which lasts forever.

How do you get wisdom to reside in your heart? By hiding God's Word inside it.
We must study God's Word every day, one on one with the Bible, to invite wisdom into our hearts.
Choose a time of day that's good for you, and commit to Bible study every day for 30 days. I guarantee your wisdom will increase if you do this, friend.
Here are ten verses on wisdom from the HCSB version to inspire your meditation times:
Surely You desire integrity in the inner self, and You teach me wisdom deep within.
Psalm 51:6
Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.
Psalm 90:12
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His instructions have good insight. His praise endures forever.
Psalm 111:10
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6
For wisdom will enter your mind, and knowledge will delight your heart.
Proverbs 2:10
For wisdom is better than jewels, and nothing desirable can compare with it.
Proverbs 8:11
The fear of the Lord is what wisdom teaches, and humility comes before honor.
Proverbs 15:33
The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.
Proverbs 28:26
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments and untraceable His ways!
Romans 11:33
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5
As you study and meditate on God's Word, I pray you will gain wisdom, discernment and understanding you can share with others.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I praise you as the author of wisdom.
So often, I depend on my own knowledge instead of yours.
But you know far more than I could ever learn.
I want to trust your wisdom for my life.
Teach me to be wise so that I can live according to your will.

Amen.
