The expression often used for two people that are close, inseparable even, is that their hearts are "knit together". Unfortunately, many of us have experienced the excruciating pain that happens when two hearts that were once knit together are torn asunder by an offense, a misunderstanding, a betrayal or even just apathy and neglect. It happens in marriages. It happens in friendships. It happens in families. It happens in church. If it has happened to you, it can make you guarded and hesitant to let yourself get that close to someone again. It can make you afraid to trust again. It can even hinder you from drawing close to God and trusting Him. When difficulties surround you, when the enemy seems to be triumphing over you, when circumstances seem as though they are defeating you, you may cry out, "You, too, God? Have You abandoned me, too?" Remember, beloved child of God, your heart is entwined with God's heart. You are one. He is yours and you are His. It is impossible, against God's very nature and character, for Him to ever fail you, leave you, or let go of you.

[I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]" Hebrews 13:3 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
Make a choice to trust God based on the truth of His promises, not based on what you are going through or how you are feeling. Say it aloud, right in the face of the enemy, the one who is whispering vile lies to you telling you that you are alone, abandoned and forsaken, "I trust You, God!" Speak aloud the promises found in His Word about His love and faithfulness. His Word will fortify and strengthen you.
In a good marriage, when the husband and wife are truly knit together in heart, when one of them is struggling, hurting, or suffering, the other spouse feels it as well. The other spouse may even say, "I wish I could bear the burden for him" or "I wish I could take the pain for her". God did bear the burden for us and take the pain for us through the life, death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How ludicrous would it be for Him to sacrifice His Son on our behalf, then just abandon us to slog through this life on our own. Ridiculous! "He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?" Romans 8:32 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition God has invested Himself wholeheartedly into His relationship with you. He is not uncaring, unfeeling, or callous to what you are going through and feeling. You are one and what matters to you matters to Him. Whatever you are suffering now, He already suffered for, in order to assure your victory in and through all things. You are not alone and never will be. That's a Person and a promise you can count on.

ReplyDeleteWell said, Elizabeth! When reading this post, I thought about 2 trees we have on our property that are growing side by side. Their trunks are entwined - wrapped around one another several times - but when you look at the treetops, they appear to be just one tree. I don't think I'll ever look at those trees again without remembering this post. Excellent!
