Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the
schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and
blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the
cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in
the heavens. For this reason take up the full armor of God, so
that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared
everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore, with truth like
a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest,
and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet
of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God.
Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and
stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
Ephesians 6:10-18
The first thing I notice in these verses is the words "put on." This is an action on our part. Something we have to do. Then it says to "take up," another action. Daily, sometimes hourly, we need to put on and take up the armor. So what are we putting on and taking up?
1) belt of truth
2) breastplate of righteousness
3) shoes of readiness
4) shield of faith
5) helmet of salvation
6) sword of the Spirit (the Bible)
The next thing we see in these Scriptures is the warning that what we fight against isn't one another, it isn't even in the flesh, it is in the heavenly realms. Our battle is against the evil one who comes to kill, steal, and destroy us.
Next, we are told that, because our battle is against the evil one, if we put on and take up our armor every single day, we are able to resist evil. Look at it this way, when we put on our armor, we are bullet proof from the attacks of the enemy. satan can, and will, aim his evil, fiery darts right at you, but when you put your armor on, you are able to resist the darts.
Lastly, There is another piece of armor many don't realize is even armor. Paul tells us in the Scriptures to pray. He tells us to pray at all times. As we pray, we build up our armor, and our faith.
7) pray
Each day put on and take up your armor. Sometimes we even need to physically act like we are doing it. Act like we are putting those shoes on, act like we are putting that belt on. When you have on your full Armor of God, all seven pieces, you are ready for battle.
