Emily Miller
I think we go through our days feeling discouraged and beat down because we lack faith. We don't believe that God has the power to work miracles in our lives. Nor do we believe that we have the ability to take what He has to offer and run with it.
I am your classic all around geek, and May the Fourth is usually the day I start my annual trek to rewatch the entirety of the Star Wars franchise. Little things tend to stick out to you in your favorite movies no matter how many times I rewatch them. One particular quote was when Luke was being trained by Yoda, and Yoda tells him that he must "unlearn what (he) has learned".
This quote got me to think, what have we taught ourselves, or what lies have been whispered to us so many times that we essentially condition ourselves to believe these lies are true? We have God's promises sitting right in our bibles, but how often do we take the time to really cling to these truths?
Jesus himself even goes as far as to question the doubt of His disciples when he reaches out to calm the storm in Matthew.
He said to them, "Why are you afraid, you of little faith?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
-Matthew 8:26
He is our calm in the midst of this sometimes calm, and sometimes hectic and crazy life. Trust Him to be just that. Trust Him to be your anchor in the tempest.
Blessings-
Emily

I absolutely love your devotion here! And not just because me and my family are avid Star Wars fans as well :) Sometimes as much as we want to grow closer to God, we don't think about 'unlearning' what we have learned. Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteLoving that Yoda wisdom translated into truth for this following life!

So true - we need to replace untruth with God's truth.
ReplyDeleteLearning to trust Him more is one of my never-ending goals. Oh, for faith to trust Him more! Thanks for the encouragement to stick with that goal.
