Preparing Our Hearts for Easter

By: Jenifer Metzger

In only a few short days we will be celebrating the day our Savior rose from the grave and conquered death. Everyone is getting their dresses and shoes ready, dying eggs, and putting together baskets. But what about preparing our hearts for Easter? With less than a week to go, now is the perfect time to begin preparing our heart for the holiday.

Pray

Spend time talking to Jesus. Even if you already have a prayer time each day, this week take extra time to just focus on talking to Jesus and listening to Him. Thank Him for what He's done for you, pray for others as He leads you, and tell Him how good He is.

Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Repent of your sins

Jesus went to the cross for you. For you. Repent of all your sins. If there is a sin addiction you are struggling with, ask God to help you. Be real and lay it all bare for Him. Remember, He already knows, He is just waiting for you to hand it over to Him.

Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out.
Acts 3:19

Study the resurrection story

Spend the next few days reading and studying the crucifixion and resurrection stories from the gospels. Write it down. Pray over it. Sometimes when we've read a story in the Bible so many times, we tend to skim over it, not really focusing on the words and meaning. Pretend you've never read the story before and open your mind and heart as you let this love story sink in.

This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth;
you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully
observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper
and succeed in whatever you do.
Joshua 1:8

Easter is a beautiful season, it welcomes spring, nature comes to life again, it's all around a new beginning. Don't let the normality or excitement over warmer weather and candy push the true meaning aside. Prepare your heart for the resurrection of Jesus.
