One thing I have learned over the past couple of years is when I have a headache or my back hurts, there is a good chance it is because I need to drink water. Not always, but most of the time when I feel this way, I drink a large glass of water and soon start to feel well again. Another lesson that I have learned is when I start to feel cranky, most of the time it is because I am overly tired. A good nights sleep or a long nap and it helps.
I have also learned, when my husband and I are feeling "off," or not getting along, most of the time it is because we have not been getting in the Word. When we get closer to God, we get closer to each other. We we get farther away from God, we get farther away from each other.
I like to use the illustration of a triangle. Each corner has 1 member of the marriage, husband, wife and God. However, we don't want to stay in our corner. Our goal as a Christian is to climb up the line closer to God. We do this by daily prayer and Bible reading. When you are climbing up your line closer to God and your husband is climbing up his line closer to God, you are naturally getting closer to each other. When we miss our prayer and Bible reading, we slide back down our line, farther away from God, which makes us farther away from our husband.
If your marriage is in a rut, if you feel out of sync with your husband, focus on getting closer to God. Everything else will fall into place.
I love the triangle analogy, too. You are so right...thank you for this encouraging post, Jenifer!
