The Garment of Praise

This is an old chorus we used to sing in church.  It's taken from Scripture, Isaiah 61:3.

Put on the garment of praise
For the spirit of heaviness
Lift up your voice to God
Praise with the Spirit
And with understanding
Oh magnify the Lord

How often I've silently sung this song in my head!  There are times when my heart is heavy and I don't even know why.  So, I just start humming this little song.  I never learned the verses (there are 3, I think) but I know the chorus and it helps to lift me out of whatever funk I happen to be in.

I love how even when I don't feel like praising God, if I press on and in to Him, it always turns my day around.  See, you can't be all attitude-y and praise God at the same time!  Today, I will put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness!  I will lift up my voice to God and praise Him in the Spirit.  I will also praise Him with my understanding.  And I will magnify the name of the Lord!  

What about you?  Will you give yourself an attitude adjustment and let God lift you?  Or, will you continue in a poor attitude and grumble and feel sorry for yourself?
