Be in the World But Not of the World

I am at a loss for words as to how much the world has changed, from when I was a child, in the 70's and 80's, to the current state of the world today.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, what's wrong has become right and what's right has become wrong.

Friends, this world can be a scary place to be. The enemy is creeping in, ever so slowly, to change the way in which society perceives truth. My heart is broken over this, as I see loved ones going astray.  In today's society, in mainstream media,  it's hard to find a television show or a movie, that does not portray violence, murder, drug use, adultery and homosexuality as the norm.

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." ~ Ephesians 4:22-24 




Once we receive Christ as our Savior, it clearly states in the Bible that there are things we no longer should do, because of our new birth in Christ. When we become born again, we'll want to please Him in our word and actions and not take part in the things of our former lives.

We can not have our cake and eat it too. Sin is sin. Plain and simple. No matter how hard the world tries, it will never be able to fully distort the truth, because the good news is, God has already won the war.

 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." ~ Romans 12:2

Sisters, it's time to re-evaluate our own lives. What do we as Christians want to take part in? When we are deciding this we must remember, will it be good and honoring to God? If not, then our answer is clear, we need to walk away from it.

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."                                      ~ Philippians 4:8

Let's set an example to society and to our children. Let's dare to be different, let's model Christ in word and action. Let's speak out against the lies that the world is claiming, which are simply not true. Let's remember that we are to be in the world, but not of the world. There is a big difference.

  1. Learning to be transformed into the likeness of Christ is definitely a process. It seems like the closer I come, the farther away I realize I am.

  3. Such a good reminder. It's not always straightforward deciding what to get involved in and when to speak out. Those words from Philippians are a great benchmark for our personal lives and the choices we make can bring glory to God.
