Emily Miller
You get done with your day and you are tired, lonely, and exhausted.
Nothing has seemed to have gone right, and if you are like me you are more often than not to be tempted to reach for your phone or for the remote to try and distract yourself from your negative feelings.
What if, instead of running to the nearest things we can see to distract us from our emotions, we ran to God instead?
Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; for the Lord, your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.
-Deuteronomy 6:13-15
In the Old Testament context, it can be very easy to merely gloss over the passage of scripture above. However, I think the above verses can be taken and applied to our lives.
Here.
Today.
Right now.
God is a jealous God. He is jealous for your time and desires for you to trust in Him to fill you up, on your bad days as well as your good days.
So next time, if you feel like you need to reach for the things of this world as a distraction, I want to challenge you to reach for His word instead.
Allow Him to fill you instead of things of this world, and you will find yourself coming away more at rest physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Blessings-
Emily
Beautiful reminder to run to God not other things/people. Thank you for this.
