Life rarely turns out as we expect it to. Whether it's just a different timing than we planned or a completely different path, and sometimes life just comes knocks the wind right out of us. Whatever it is, we all go through seasons where things are not just what we expected, planned or even want.
It's hard. I get it. We want to push through the season and move past it as quickly as we can to get to the next season, the season we want to be in. The mom who is struggling through the toddler years and just wants to get to the other side of the terrible twos where she thinks it will be easier. The woman dealing with a disability who just wants to get past this and on to the healing and living life again. The wife trudging through her husband's recovering from addiction who is tired of the pains of it all and just wants him made whole again. The young adult who is struggling to keep up with college and all that demands her attention and just wishes graduation would finally arrive so she can now live life.
Oh friend, don't you see? This is just a season. And like all seasons, it will pass. You will get to the next season, the next phase. The key is to right now, in this very season, no matter how hard or unwanted it may be, remain faithful.
Through it all, continue to trust in God. Dive deeper into His Word. Worship more passionately than you ever have. Give faithfully. Serve regularly. And pray often. When we are faithful to God in all seasons, even those we wish we didn't have to endure, He sees that faithfulness and He will fill us with all that we need to thrive through the season.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

So rue - with ourselves and our children we're often so eager to get to the next stage or season that we miss everything for us in the current one. I'm in a season right now that I wish would come to an end, but I'm trying to be patient, learn what God has for me in the meantime, and trust that He has reasons for our times and seasons.
