Let them come...

by Debi Baker

"14 Let the children come to me.  Don’t stop them!  For the Kingdom
of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children."
Matthew 19:14 NLT

Last night we wrapped up a 3-day J.A.M. Session (Where Jesus And Me get together) at our church.  It's very similar to a kids crusade.  It's full of fun, games, laughter, praise, worship, and puppets.  Designed for kids, the adults that attend have just as much fun as the kids do.  It is a blast and it is so worth the time and effort.

On the fly, one of our church mamas invited her neighbor's little boy.  He had just recently learned his parents are divorcing.  He's so full of love and hurt.  He was nearly attached to our Children's Pastor at the hip.  Before she ever found out his story, she handled his following her around everywhere with such grace.  She totally lived out Matthew 19:14.  I love that she didn't know his story; she just knew that he needed a little 'extra.'

That little boy heard a sermon on fear the first night.  He heard that when we have fear we just need to give it to God.  Now keep in mind this young man had just heard that his parents were getting a divorce a few days before.  He was/is afraid.  His life is being turned upside down.  He is full of fear.  And then...he hears how Jesus will take his fears and ease his mind.  He hears that Jesus will handle it all and he doesn't have to be afraid at all because Jesus is with him.

The second night this little guy was more calm and didn't follow her around quite as much!!  I could tell he was letting loose of his fears just a little.  We knew his story by this time and I watched him sit in his chair listening intently as the message was given!  I knew God was working!!

Last night, the final night we would see this precious boy [because of the move coming due to the divorce]...he sat in his chair almost the entire night.  He participated in games and jumped around when it was jumping time; he sat and listened when it was listening time.  But you could tell that God had made an impact on him.  It brings tears to my eyes.  It goes so deep.  We will likely never see this young man again.  We will likely never really know just how much he was impacted by these 3 nights.  We can only pray; pray that God reached down into his soul and gave him the comfort needed.  We can only pray that he will pray for his parents.  We can pray for that family to come to know God!

"14 Let the children come to me.  Don’t stop them!  For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children."  This young man belongs to Jesus; and if not now, certainly one day this precious young man will know exactly WHO Jesus is!!

Please join us in praying for him and his family.

Have a wonderful day!
