When the path gets hard....

According to Psalm 139, God created us, knows us, understands us and continually thinks of us.  It also says He sifts and searches out our path.  In that case, if there are any obstacles in our way, if there are any unexpected twists and turns on the path ahead, none of it is a surprise to our good Heavenly Father.

I have terrible night vision. I really dislike not having a clear view of where I'm going and what might lie between me and my destination.  My flesh resists the notion of not seeing ahead clearly, of not knowing what lies before me. My first choice would always be to know ahead of time what I'm going to be facing.  However, I realize that if that had been the case there are a lot of difficult places on life's path that I would have avoided all together.  It was only after I walked through those hard places, only when I could look back in hindsight, that I saw how God used those hard stretches on my journey in amazing ways.

The last few weeks, the path has been a bit rocky and bumpy.  I can't clearly see around the next bend in the road.  But, my past experience confirms the truth of God's Word, He's never lead me somewhere that's taken me beyond His capacity to care for me.

  1. Elizabeth, praying for you this morning - may our God make the path before you smooth. And may He continue to assure your heart that He will "never lead you somewhere that will take you beyond His capacity to care for you." Blessings!

    1. Thank you! Isn't that photo a good analogy for life? If we don't keep walking, keep climbing, we won't see what God has for us up ahead.

    1. Carol, God's Word often tells us to remember all that He has done for us in the past. It reassures me that wherever the path leads, He knows and He is with me.

  4. It is comforting to be able to rely on His guidance and know, that He leads our path, being beside us, before us.., His Spirit living inside us ~ strengthening and carrying through the rocky paths.
Thank you for the encouragement, Elizabeth!
Dear Lord, I pray your peace will guard Eluzabeth's heart, mind and soul. Thank you God that you are with her every step of her way, holding her hand and giving her strength, one moment at a time. Amen.

  5. We have a very Steep Hill in our neighborhood that I walk. Going down is not hard but walking back up is when it really gets tough. I have found that if I keep my eye on my footsteps and take one step at a time, not thinking of how hard it is or how far I have to go I will make it to the top. I feel like this is the way God wants me to follow Him, just walking in His footsteps one at a time not looking ahead at how far or how high or how tough the road might be. Thanks so much for this devotional. Blessings.

  7. Great truth about the rocky places, and seeing the beauty afterwards. I'm just so glad that God is holding my hand when I am stumbling on an unfamiliar path.
