You Split The Sea

By: Jenifer Metzger

My heart has been going through quite a bit lately. The relationship with my son is strained and last week my daughter had to have a serious medical test (I may share more about that at a later time). When I begin to pray for these two situations, I can't.

I can pray for anything and anyone but when I start to pray for these two situations, the words get lodged in my throat and fear overwhelms me. I can do nothing but cry. I know God knows my heart and knows the situations, but I want to cry out to Him with words. I want to let go of fear and pray.

This weekend the ladies from my church attended a women's retreat. I went to the retreat praying that God would touch our women. Bless them, heal them, deliver them, and breathe new life into them. He did. But He also blessed me, healed me, delivered me and breathed new life into me. We sang the song Slaves No More. As we sang, I felt God breathing into me. I had heard this song before, it is sang by one of my favorite worship groups, but at that time it didn't mean anything personal to me. This time it enveloped me.

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

-------------

You split the sea so I could walk right through it
My fears are drowned in perfect love
You rescued me and I will stand and sing
I am a child of God

Then our speaker called for people to come to the altar if you needed a touch. Boy did I! I walked past my mom and grabbed her arm, I know she had fears the same as mine and I needed her with me. I stood at the altar and tears flowed and flowed and flowed. Finally the words came. I asked, I begged God to touch my relationship with my son and touch my daughter's health.

Did God tell me that instantly everything would be just as I wanted? No. Was my daughter's medical test clear? We are still waiting to hear. Is my relationship with my son great now? No, it's going to be a long road. But did God give me peace? Yes! He drowned my fears in His love. He reminded me that I am His child and that He loves me and He has everything in His hands. No matter the outcomes, He is in control and I can trust Him.

What are you facing? What trials and troubles are surrounding you? What words are lodged in your throat unable to be prayed? Reach up to God and let Him drown your fears. Let Him take away that slave label and remind you that you are His. His child.

Take a few minutes to listen to this song. Close your eyes and let the words wash over you as He drowns your fears.
