"Don't use foul or abusive language. Let
everything you say be good and helpful,
so that your words will be an
encouragement to those who hear them."
Ephesians 4:29 NLT
Have you ever regretted something you said? That's a silly
question...we've ALL said something we wish we could take back! Our words
are like toothpaste in a tube and our mouth is the tube. Once you squeeze
the toothpaste out, can you get it back inside the tube? Not without
cutting the end of the tube off. Once it's out, it's out.
Our words are the very same. Once we speak them out of our
mouth, there is no getting them back. They are out there, floating around
speaking to those who hear. Are those words good and helpful? I think we forget just how dangerous our tongue can be.
"21 The
tongue can bring death or life…"
Proverbs
18:21 NLT
One way we can be sure to speak words that are
good and helpful is to T.H.I.N.K. before we speak!
Are the words we putting out there…
True?
Helpful?
Inspiring?
Necessary?
Kind
If we cannot answer 'yes' to each of those
questions...perhaps we shouldn't say what's on our mind...just a thought. I think if we would seriously take a few minutes to think through what the consequences of our words would be, we might speak more carefully.
"19 …You must
all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry."
James 1:19 NLT
I am working on being more aware of what comes out of my mouth...will you join me?
Have a blessed day!!
Yes! We need to THINK before we speak/act!
