I will be with You

By: Shari A. Miller

Welcome, I'm so glad that you stopped by. Let's start out by reading one of my favorite Bible stories below.

"After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from the land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.  Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come." he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus, but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." ~ Matthew 14:23-33 (NIV)

I don't know about you, but I probably would have done the same thing.

Poor Peter, for one moment he takes his eyes off Jesus, and then fear starts to creep in and overwhelm him.

For one instant, he loses his focus...and then it happens....

That split second changes the story, because it allows the door to his soul to be opened just enough for fear to creep in. When it does, he no longer believes in the all powerful Father who is right in front of him, but instead, starts to believe the enemies lies that what he's doing is an impossible act and he will drown.

Right after he cries out, a reassuring thing happens, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.  Jesus questioned why he didn't believe, and you know what, I wonder if  Paul didn't ask that same question himself.

I think this story in Matthew is so much like real life, don't you?

God calls us to obey Him, and we walk forward with our backs straight, our stride true and strong, and our eyes fixed undeviating on our Savior, then all of a sudden it happens.....

The winds start to blow, our lives start to shake from the pressure of the storms we're in and then disbelief sets in.

It's time to stop this vicious cycle. Wherever you're at in life, don't take your eyes off the Savior, not even for one second, because I promise you that He will be with you. He will reach out His hand and catch you, He will be there when you start to fall.

Friends, let's allow God to do His job by taking care of us, and then, let's get busy doing our job by keeping our eyes fixed on Him.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." ~ Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
