Aligning Our Hearts with God

By: Shari A. Miller

The world is quickly changing.

What's right is wrong, and what's wrong is right.

Oh how my heart grieves.

I often find myself wishing for the days when my mom grew up. The 1930's and 40's were a different time. Oh sure, they were not without their troubles, but it seemed like things were simpler, family mattered and Christian values were prevalent.

That's almost the exact opposite of what we see pictured in society today.

So, with these new images of moral and political correctness unfolding before our eyes, we can often be left with the question of.....what do we do?

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

The answer is to pray.

We must get down on our knees and seek God's will for how He wants us to act.

Within these past few weeks, I've seen both Christians and non-Christians take sides on so many issues. The thing is, we must be careful how we choose to respond.

Remember...... we are being watched. The world wants to see if our words and actions will match. Through it all we must seek the Lord's will friends, and dig deep into His Word to find out what we are to do and say.

We must be willing to pray.... Lord please help us to soften our responses so our hearts may be in alignment with yours.

"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly." Proverbs 15:1-2 (ESV)

Instead of acting out in anger and demanding that our way is right when we face challenging issues; we need to align our hearts with God and ask Him to give us the words to speak instead of our own.

Let's set an example for Christ with our actions and words. Let's bear Godly fruit in our lives so that others will see there is something different about us, and hopefully they'll want more of the same.

One day at a time, one step at a time I believe we can make a positive impact in this world, as long as we allow Christ to lead the way.

  1. Shari, this post is so fitting for this day and time. I grew up in the 40s and 50s and wish for those days. But that is not to be. Since I am Christ's I, too, want to look more and more like Christ to the world for I just might be the only Christ that some may ever see as they walk closely connected to this world. It is easy to get caught up in am emotional situation, but we truly must stay close to Jesus. I am reading "The Grapes of Wrath" for the first time in my life (yes, I am catching up on some classics in my growing years!)...and the story is heartwrenching. It also tells about the Dust Bowl era but it speaks of today even though it was written in 1939. There is so much that is repeating itself in the ways we treat others.
Your post confirms that what I am reading is another call for me to hold the image of Christ today.

  2. I see this also. It feels like the country is becoming more and more divided over key issues; we are seeing people who used to be (or we thought) strong Christian influencers step over their biblical foundation and onto the side of popular culture. Scary times. Thank you for the link up.
