There are many ways that we can instill in our children the importance of giving. This week, my daughter chose to give sacrificially to the organization "Locks of Love". "Locks of Love" is an organization that takes donated lengths of hair 10 inches or longer and makes wigs for cancer patients. A lot of children will give for other children that are going through chemotherapy.
I am so thankful for opportunities like this one to teach giving to my children. Sometimes, having young children, they are unable to help in such tangible ways, but she was able to give a part of herself to a worthy cause. Her hair was definitely something of significance to her. Every since the movie "Frozen" came out, she has been almost obsessed with braiding her hair on a daily basis. She has really started taking pride in her looks and begun to care about her outward appearance, as any 12 year old would. So, when I suggested it was time for a haircut, and that there was an option to give her hair for this worthy cause, I was touched that she wanted to "let it go". I am thankful that the experience not only made her proud of what she was able to do for others by giving, but she also was very happy with the finished product and now can't seem to stop staring at herself in the mirror, looking at her new short hair do:) Take some time this season to think of creative ways to incorporate a spirit of giving. Perhaps you can come up with creative ways that can touch someone else at their most needed time at any time of the year. Luke 12:7
Why even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Beautiful encouragement. My girls have each donated once.
