Moms, have you ever had one of those, "Boy Howdy, I Tell Ya!" days, where things just never seem to go right. You know, the ones where the kids give you a run for your money, the laundry is never ending, and no sooner do you stop a squabble that the next one starts. One of those days where you want to pull all your hair out, then lock yourself in the bathroom till the kids turn 18?
We've all been there and done that. I had one of those days today. It seemed like nothing I did turned out right. I was madder than a wet hen and I just wanted to stick my head in the sand and pout.
But, instead of carrying on in my anger, the Lord helped me through it. I turned to him in prayer, calmed my breathing down, and felt his peace wash over me.
"The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace." ~Pslam 29:11
Once I was able to calm myself down and see the situation through God's eyes instead of my own; I was then able to approach my children and work through the situation with them.
"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." ~ Ephesians 6:4
It's important to remember when we approach our children to resolve an issue, or to discipline them, to not do it in anger. Nothing will be resolved this way. I know we as Mom's are not perfect, we're human and we will make mistakes.
However, the easiest way to parent our children is to do so with Godly correction. Speak to them the way you would like to be spoken to.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. ~ Proverbs 15:1
Moral of the story is when one of those, "Boy Howdy, I Tell Ya!" days knocks on your door, let Jesus answer it. We don't need to walk this road alone, remember that Jesus is in charge, take it all to him when the load seems to much to bear.

ReplyDeleteVery encouraging post! My go to verse for this season of my life is Joshua 1:9! "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go"

Started to tell you how encouraging your post was a few days ago but was not able to finish it. You give much hope to frazzled young moms and a few tips on how to make it through those hair-pulling days. I enjoyed reading your post even though I am now a mother of adult children. Even at this stage, even when they have left home, there is much to be learned in whatever season life finds us.
