Trusting God in the Silence

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

Some say, "Silence is golden."

Others may say, "I can't wait till I get a moment of peace and quiet!"

I am very much an introvert and love the sound of silence over loud deafening noise. {That's unless I am at a Seahawks game, then I love noise. :)}

The only time I don't like silence is when it comes from God.

These seasons of silence often feel a lot like winter. Times of growth and renewal are happening, yet it sometimes takes struggle and work to get to the other side.

When these times of life come the only thing we can do is trust God. That may seem like a cliche, or an over used phrase, or easier said than done.

However, it's all there is.

When we go through times of hardships that cut us to our core. When we cry out to God and we hear nothing, He is still there.

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

This is where faith in who God really is comes into play. It's when we deny what our senses tell us and where we believe in the unseen because we know the unseen holds truth.

The unseen holds our Lord and Savior who watches over our every care. He hears our every sob and cry, and grants us what we need.

When silence is all you hear, don't loose heart. God is there. He cares about us more than we could ever imagine.

Trust Him in the silence. He's working all things out for our good. The silence will not last forever. He's just waiting when the time is right to reveal His good and perfect will.

"Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. " ~ John H. Sammis

  1. I'm an introvert, too, but I grew up in a house where silence meant my parents were fighting...again. It took me a long time to realize that silence is necessary for me and okay in general. I hear you about not liking the silence from God and your word picture of winter really resonates with me.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Jen. Silence is very hard, I am still learning from my own words. But, like you said, it's necessary for growth.

      All for Him,
      Shari

  2. Love this! Just wrote a similar one myself because it seems so many struggle with it. He really isn't silent...we can still find Him in His Word and feel His presence when we go to Him in prayer. What a comfort! Beautiful post friend! ♥

  3. Ah yes, the sounds of silence. I love what you have reminded me of today, Shari. That even when God seems *silent* - He is still there, still working, still good and loving. I also find that sometimes when I think He's silent, it's really just that I can't hear Him because I'm not taking the time to be still.

    GOD BLESS!

    1. So, true we do need to take the time to be silent to hear Him. Thank you for this reminder and for stopping by.

      All for Him,

  4. Beautiful encouragement Shari. Makes me think of my favorite verse...Be still and know I am God. Psalm 46:10. Sometimes He is silent, but we can trust that He is still God and still there.
