We look forward to connecting our communities with each other and ministering with you.
Every morning I go on a two mile walk. Some days are easier than others to get up and get moving. I am so thankful once I actually complete my journey. The journey that's just a small step in my desire to get healthy. My desire to be cancer free. My desire to be the person God wants me to be.
I have to constantly remind myself to put aside my own desires and live the way Christ wants me to live. He's living inside me and I must treat my body as His home, I am not my own, I am here to fulfill His purpose, not mine.
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are no your own;" ~1 Corinthians 6:19
As the morning sun breaks through the tall evergreens, I start by putting one foot after the other and I'm on my way. When I near the half way mark, I'm faced with the hill in the picture above.
I stand at the bottom and I talk to God and say, "Really? Do we really have to do this again? Can't I just take the easy way out and go the straight path?"
"No He says, you'll gain more by going the harder way."
I sigh and think,"But I don't like doing things the hard way. I would much rather take the easy way out."
Then He says, "How will you learn? How will you grow?"
So up the hill I go, one step at a time with the cool winds at my back pushing me forward. When I get to the top I look at the view behind me and I breath out a sigh of relief at my accomplishment. I know that if I keep it up every day, it'll get easier and easier as time goes on.
This is a lot how life works.
We have so many hills in the forms of trials that we have to face everyday. we always beg and plead for an easier way. So, many days we don't understand and ask the all elusive question of, "Why?" Sometimes we hear an answer and sometimes we don't.
No matter how big the hill, how insurmountable the suffering and hardship may seem, I can guarantee you that He's always with us.
Step by step we must trust in Him.
We need to be silent enough to hear His voice as we put one foot in front of the other and climb the hills of life. We need to put aside our wills and our desire for what we think should be, and accept who He is.
Accept Him.
God wants to change us through these times. He's molding us and moving us to become more and more like Him.
Feel the cool wind at your back as He moves you along, moves you through the hardship to find perseverance, character and hope at the end.
Don't run from the struggles. Move through them with God by your side. Once you've reached the top, stand back and enjoy the view and how far you've come.
"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." ~Romans 5:3-5
"God loves you the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus." ~ Max Lucado

ReplyDeleteShari, this bring such encouragement and inspiration to me. It is so easy for me to say 'it didn't work the first time so forget it' or 'it's too hard so I quit.' But I must persevere. I must trust in His plan and His way. Thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteNo worries about spelling my name wrong. :) Yes, one foot in front of the other, one step at a time, with God by our side, works every time.
