Word Filled Wednesday - Yes, There is Hope!

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the  Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

The doctor's appointments seemed to blend into one after the other. I lost count of how many times I had sat in the waiting room of various offices, blending into the crowd of faces without names, waiting to be seen, waiting for my story to be heard, waiting for a sliver of hope.

As I was ushered back into the room my mind raced with all the questions of the what if's and the why me's. I closed my eyes and the tears began to stream down my tired face. "Why is this happening again Lord? What have I done wrong?", was my plea towards heaven as the reality of my stage IV cancer diagnosis began to settle in.

In desperation I cried out, "Dear Jesus, What's going to happen?" It was then that the Lord directed me to a picture on the wall. I slowly walked over and read it's words.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the  Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

With a sigh of relief I thought, "You are always there, even in the darkest moments. Thank you for hearing me Father."

Friends, no where in the Bible does God say that we will have a life without pain or suffering. Even though there are many times we would like to run way from life's trials and have immediate understanding as to why they are happening, sometimes that's just not a possibility. The trials of this life will not last forever. We can rest in the knowledge that God has something far better than we could have ever dreamed waiting for us.

"The best we can hope for in this life is a knothole peek at the shining realities ahead. Yet a glimpse is enough. It’s enough to convince our hearts that whatever sufferings and sorrows currently assail us aren't worthy of comparison to that which waits over the horizon." - Joni Eareckson Tada

When the trials of life have gotten you down and burnt a hole into your heart telling you that everything is hopeless, I am here to tell you that there is hope! The hope is in Jesus Christ our Savior. Give it over to Him. Don't try to figure it all out on your own, the truth is we can't. The one and only thing that we can do, is stop grasping for understanding from our own perspective and rest in the Savior's arms knowing that He has it covered. His ways are far better than anything we could of ever hoped or dreamed of.

"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."  Romans 12:12

Many Blessings~

  1. Beautiful post. Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses and one that has been on my heart since I woke up this morning. Thank you for this.
