God desires for us to have an intimate relationship with Him. This is seen from the beginning of mankind with Adam and Eve, to the promises He gave to Abraham. It is also evident in John 15:14-15,
"14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."
The question then arises as to, "How do we develop this relationship?" One of the answers is through the act of worshiping Him. The act of worshiping the Lord happens anytime we offer our adoration to Him, simply for the fact that He is Lord above all. Last week we talked about worshiping the Father through prayer. This week we will talk about worshiping Him through our praise.
The praises that we offer our Savior can be for many things. It can be for the fact that He is God of the Universe, to sending His Son to die on the cross for our sins, or for the great and wonderful things He has done and is doing for us. The list is endless.
God's word commands us to honor Him through the offering of our praises 1 Peter 2:9,
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;"
We can offer our praises to God every moment of the day. We can give Him praises through silent prayer as we thank Him for the blessings He has given us. We can also offer Him our praises aloud as we go about our daily activities . One of my favorite ways to praise God is to write down my praises in a journal. I love to list the blessings He has given me and my family and thank Him for His generosity.
When we take the time to praise Him we are reminded of His goodness and power. It also increases our faith as we are focusing on Him and not our problems. God wants us to praise Him, even when the storm clouds come. He wants us to realize that He is there and He will see us through no matter what. This happens when we take the time to put Him first and, not the difficult situation we might be going through.
Take the time today to draw closer to the Father by worshiping Him in praise. It will set your mind on things above, it will release you of your worries and help you to fix your eyes on Jesus, the One who matters most of all.
