I know this is the time of the week when we usually share some scrumptious recipe with you all. Today, I wanted to do something a little different.
This week my family is on vacation and while we don't have 'small' children any more, we do have grandchildren. This year, we are blessed enough to be vacationing with all 4 of our children and all 8 grandchildren. We all know that vacation is a great thing but we also know that it brings with it a disruption of our schedules. That disruption can cause our kids to become cranky...especially when it involves our eating.
When we vacation with our whole family, we rent a multi-bedroom condo with a full kitchen. This provides us the ability to add back some of that normal schedule to our otherwise crazy time. Most of what we do is hit the local Wal-Mart almost as soon as we get in town. We buy cereal and milk, bread and butter or perhaps cinnamon rolls to bake. We have found that having breakfast together in our 'jammies' sometimes helps keep the kids feeling somewhat 'normal.' Once we are done, we all get ready to hit the beach or whatever other activity we may have planned.
Once our day is done and we are back in the condo for the night, showers are taken and we begin the nightly rituals that each of our families have. Often that includes a 'bedtime' snack. We will either have some kind of cracker snack or fruit chews or something of that nature. We may even have a favorite of all my girls'...ice cream!
Some snacks you could do are:
Pudding or Jello Cups
Celery sticks with Peanut Butter and Raisins (Ants on a Log J)
Flour Tortillas spread with Peanut Butter and Banana Slices
Lunch Meat slices rolled up in a Flour Tortilla
Crackers and Cheese Slices or Cheese Spread
Smucker's PB&J Sandwiches
Hard Boiled Eggs
Mixed Nuts
Now I know that the 'vacation' season is almost over, but it's never to late to start an 'idea' notebook for next year. I hope that these ideas have been or will be helpful in planning your next vacation with your children!
God bless,
We love Smuckers around here! Even the grown ups:) Great snack ideas!
