Marriage Monday - Victoria Secret Model?

So often as women we tend to compare ourselves to other women.  We are not as beautiful or classy, our teeth aren't as white, our hair isn't as silky, our waist line is too big or bust size too small.  No matter what it is, we feel as though we are never beautiful enough.  We see the models at Victoria Secrets and wish our tummy was that flat and legs that long and slender.  And often we just assume that is what our husband wants.

Recently a new movement began with a group of five young men at Baylor University called Live 31.  Their motto is this:

For the women
For the men

This video, this movement, speaks volumes!  What is more important in life?  Our hair, skin and waist size, or how we treat our husband and children and how we worship our God?  Of course we want to look nice, but if given the chance, oh sisters, I want to be a Proverbs 31 woman far more than I want a nice body or silky hair!

The truth is, when we have God inside of us and we are living a true life of worship, when we are striving to be a Proverbs 31 woman, then we are absolutely beautiful.  I feel more drawn to say a woman is beautiful by seeing her spirit than her stylish clothes.  True beauty comes from within, from her spirit and her relationship to God.

So sisters, do you want to be a Victoria Secret's model or a Proverbs 31 woman?

If you answer a Proverbs 31 woman, today I have a challenge for you. First, take the above image (ladies take the one that says I'd rather be... and men take the one that says I'd rather have...) and make it your facebook profile picture and claim that you would rather be (have) a Proverbs 31 woman than a Victoria Secret model.  Then today spend time focusing on your inner beauty rather than your physical beauty.  I'm not saying skip the shower and pig out on every kind of sweets in your house, I am saying instead of worrying about what you will wear and how many crunches you did, worry about how much time you are spending in the presence of God and how kind you are to your husband and how nurturing you are to your children.  Let's strive to be the kind of women God called us to be.  Let's make our husbands proud to be our husbands and our children proud to call us mom.  Sisters, let your glow not be from great skincare and gallons of water intake, but from the glory of God shining through you.

Sweet Blessings~

P.S. We are not at all bashing the Victoria Secret models and yes we do want to care for our physical self.  But we want to encourage each and every woman to let her relationship with Christ shine through, that is the only true form of beauty.

  2. I just saw this video yesterday, and it was really encouraging. Especially since I had just read about a girl SELLING her virginity. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/12/natalie-dylan-auctions-of_n_157329.html

Sigh. Yes, tossing a little good into the mix is a good thing.

  4. This is awesome Jenifer! I have no chance of the Victoria's Secret...the lacy panties are so uncomfortable! Anyway, yes, I want to be a P31 woman instead...even though sometimes that is uncomfortable too:)))

  6. Thank you for sharing this. I found it encouraging also, but then after visiting their facebook, I noticed other Christians offended at the movement. Why?!: because of biblical interpretation... When will Christains get with it that we are on the same side, preaching the same love from the one true God that blesses us with mercy and grace through His son, Jesus Christ?

See, this is what I'm talking about. When doctrine becomes more important that the love we are commanded to show, the devil wins. Period.

Anyways, sorry for going off at your place. Thank you again for sharing.

  7. Kendra, I totally agree, when doctrine becomes more important than the love we are commanded to show, the devil wins, period. That is so true. It hurts to see the people on that page arguing when we should show love.
