Marriage Monday - Taking Care of His Wife

Has your husband ever been sick and you asked him to go to the doctor and take care of himself?  My husband often gets a backache and I ask him to go to the chiropractor or he gets sick and I ask him to go to the doctor.  He also drinks a lot of soda and I ask him to drink a little more water.  Why do I ask him to do these things?  Because I love him and want him to take care of himself.

However....

When I am sick and my husband asks me to go to the doctor, I refuse.  When I am extremely tired my husband will tell me to rest, I refuse.  Why does he ask this of me?  Simple.  Because he loves me

We need to take care of our husband's wife.

Come an inch closer to your computer screen.  Read this out loud.  Listen closely....

Take. Care. Of. Yourself.
  1. Get plenty of rest.
  2. Drink plenty of water.
  3. Take a multi vitamin.
  4. Exercise, even if it is just a short walk to the end of the street and back a couple of times a week.
  5. When you are feeling stressed out, take a moment.
  6. Do something to relax and unwind each day.  Maybe a bubble bath a night, a walk, or read a chapter in a book for leisure.
  7. Spend time with God taking care of your Spiritual self.
We need to take care of ourselves for our husband and children.  The next time your husband asks you to go to the doctor or take care of yourself, know he is doing it because he loves you and listen to him.

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Boy can I relate to this post! I do/have done the exact same thing. You're right, it is important that we take care of ourselves. We won't be able to bless our families if we are sick, tired, and grumpy. Great lesson!

  2. Thanks for this. I used to get upset when my husband would ask me to go to the doctor if I was sick and to rest when I was tired. I just had surgery a few weeks ago and was upset cause I couldnt do what I am used to doing. He was on my case making sure I wasn't doing anythng the doc said I shouldnt. It was then that I realized that he wasnt trying to make me feel useless. He was just making sure that I was ok. That I would be able to heal and get better soon, so I could get back to doing the things that I usually do. Today because he was there to help me and gave me the time to heal. I am able to better serve my church family and my family with all that I have. Thank you Lord!

  3. Jenifer,
I used to struggle to make time for myself. Everything else seemed more important, but then I just always felt so run down and empty.

I've found that even sitting for 10 minutes on my back deck refreshes me in big ways.

  4. Thanks so much for this great reminder - I'm guilty of sometimes pushing my own health to the back burner. So glad you shared this! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I LOVE what you said: "Father, break my heart for what breaks Yours." Beautiful!

  5. Wonderful encouragement! We're so busy taking care of everything and everyone else that we save nothing for taking care of us. And I don't know about you, but when I don't take care of me I begin to fall short of taking care of everyone else too... we all suffer! Thank you :)

  8. You're way more holy than I, Jenifer. When my husband tells me to take vitamins or get more exercise, I tell him to quit nagging. Sheesh. I have a long way to go along this road. And I've been married already for over 40 years. My marriage is my spiritual growing edge, even after all this years.

  10. You have hit a very good point -- often we need people to tell us it is okay to take care of ourselves. Hearing that permission is sometimes the only way we will actually do it.

    Welcome to Soli Deo Gloria!

  11. Alright, you just gave me the kick in the pants I needed! I get plenty of rest and I have still, quiet times, but I do not drink near enough water and do not take vitamins and I wonder why I feel so sluggish all the time? Could be all that chocolate I eat:(

Thank you for posting this...I'm off to get a bottle of water now:)
