Be Still

“Be still, and know that I am God!

Don't rush past this verse in Psalm 46:10 just because it is familiar.  Think about what God is saying.

Be still...

Why does God say to be still?  Because He understands human nature.  In the busyness of our lives, we can get wrapped up in our wants, our needs, our problems.  Our brains run a mile a minute, overwhelmed by all that we need to do.  That's why God tells us to be still.  It's in the stillness that we hear His voice the loudest.

and know ...

God doesn't want us to think, guess or assume.  He wants us to know.  When we quiet our spirits and sit in God's presence, then our brains discover what our hearts have known all along. He is our source, the answer to all our questions.  God wants us to know, that we know, that we know.

that I am God.

There is no other!  Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands. (Deut. 7:9)

The One who created you is asking you to be still.  Worship Him today by sitting quietly in His presence.

Still, by Hillsong United
Hide me now
Under your wings
Cover me
within your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are king over the flood
I will be still and know you are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know his power
In quietness and trust

Many blessings,

  1. Clicked over from Mothers on a Mission, and I'm happy to find you guys!

Oh, I have such trouble being still. My mind is always racing with mental checklists. I wonder how much I would learn about myself and Him if I just sat in stillness.

  2. I am not adhd, until I go to have my quiet time with God. Then my mind races and eyes wander. I am learning to be still and completely focus on Him. Great post.

  4. I find it hard to just sit and be still infront of God too but as I start to feel my mind wander I say the name of Jesus over and over and it really helps. I love this post thank you!

  5. I really struggle with being still before Him... I think it's because nothing IS still around me... ever! I love it when He invades my sleep... guess that's the only time He can get in... that is when I don't carve out time for Him. I love that even in my disobedience He still pursues me... what an awesome God!
